Visually stimulating environments, functional teaching areas, an exciting learning atmosphere, all are challenges to be met in the design of an educational facility.

Facilities for Learning
Not long ago, a one room schoolhouse was the typical educational facility. Terry Shrum has designed multi-building campuses to meet the growing educational needs of the community.  Then and now, the function of these school facilities remains fundamentally the same, to promote the process of learning.  Terry is sensitive to this all-important function and is experienced in designing facilities, which serve education well.

Efficient Design
Being involved in educational building design since 1985, Terry has kept abreast of the changes which have occurred in school-related design, from changing teaching methods to evolving state codes and regulations.  Through the design process, Terry has been able to address all factors involved in creating a workable, efficient facility.  This includes consideration of building functions, specialized equipment, building elements and systems and specification of proper building materials.

From Budgets to Funding
Terry is keenly aware that campus facilities must be designed to be cost efficient and easily maintained.  His expertise enables him to design structures in keeping with your construction budgets and proposed operating and life-cycle costs encompassing both today's plans and future growth.  With his extensive knowledge in designing educational facilities, he also assists clients in obtaining California State funding.  His thorough understanding of the state's requirements can often save valuable time in the funding process.

Lasting Designs
From the rehabilitation of existing classrooms to the master planning of a new campus, Terry designs structures for longevity, both structurally and aesthetically.  Building materials are selected to provide many years of service.   Terry considers the special needs of the classroom, selects finishes which are visually exciting yet durable and easily maintained.

Understanding Your Needs
Terry understands educational facilities and how they relate to the teaching process.  This basic understanding and his ability to work closely with the client’s staff allows him to design a facility which will effectively meet the client’s current and future visually stimulating environments, functional teaching areas, an exciting learning atmosphere, all are challenges to be met in the design of an educational facility.
